Below are the dates of the 2018 race series and standalone events that are either part of Welsh off-road endurance racing: Cross-Country Mountain Bike (XC or XCO) and Cyclo-Cross (CX); other Mid Wales events or races and significant standalone events that could be of interest to competitive cyclists in Mid Wales

North Wales Go Ride Racing MTB Series

New for 2018, this series has been set up to encourage more participation by children in XC MTB and cycling in general.

The format is a mass-start race and a skills test and points are awarded for both elements. The points scored give an overall score for the day and towards the series standing.

Competitors can attempt the skills test at any time whilst the racing is in progress.

This format is a really excellent idea and something that has been done in places like Switzerland and Germany to great effect. Done well it rewards skills as much as power. Encouraging young riders to develop their skills is much better for them in the long-term.

Welsh MTB XC Series 2018

As the title implies, this is the premier XC series in Wales and sits a level lower than the British National series. That said, these are still great races for kids as the Under 12 races are all about participation and there is no elitism, novices are welcome.
